Opened at the end of February on the premises of equally brand new luxury condo hotel, Bali-inspired El Taj Oceanfront, Indigo Restaurant and Beach Club offers a fresh fusion cuisine that blends Italian, Asian and Mexican influences with a focus on seafood. For example, Asian-style tuna sashimi is served with the Mexican Veracruz vinaigrette, capers and julienned local red onion. Grilled lobster comes in a vanilla sauce, and sea bass is served with the hoisin reduction, oriental salad and lemongrass. And then there is a choice of traditional Mexican dishes, such as tuna tostadas served in the Mayan pibil style, meaning that the tuna was marinated in the sauce of achiote, natural orange juice and spices, and slowly cooked to tender perfection.


The owner of Indigo Beach Club and Restaurant is Andrea Bastogi, an Italian restaurateur who got stranded in Playa about 10 years ago. he is part of Mosquito Beach, Blue Cacao and Mosquito Blue. According to Andrea, his passion is to be constantly on the move, creating new innovative projects and watching Playa del Carmen develop into a fashionable, sophisticated destination, while still preserving its natural charm of a fishing village.


His new creation, Indigo Restaurant and Beach Club, blends into the natural beach setting with its tropical, Bali-inspired, light-colored décor that is livened with different-colored glasses and pillows and an open entrance from the beach, so diners can feel the gentle sea breeze coming from the water. During the day, Indigo Restaurant and Beach Club will serve as a perfect lunch spot for sunbathers and for those looking for perfect mojitos or ice-cold beer.

One of the main elements of the restaurant is a long bar that promises a lively scene at night. Outside of the restaurant, guests are served beach BBQ of fresh seafood.
